3rd Match – La Celeste 1 – Yo Quiero Taco Bell 0

This has to be the most delayed blog entry in blog history but better late than never!!

Where the hell do I begin?????

Let me start by saying that I don’t really now any people from Mexico and cant really remember the last time prior to this match that I encountered any so I never had an opinion of them. After this match though I can now say with confidence that they are the worst fans in the world and also the sorest losers in the world, SON TODOS CHUPA VERGAS!!!

Now that I have got that off my chest let me detail how great this day in particular was, so much so that this day’s events will stay with me for the rest of my days.

The day before the game Gustavo was trolling through his Twitter feed on his iPhone and came across a tweet that had the name of the hotel where La Celeste was staying at for the match against Mexico. We discussed if we should go to the Bakabung Bush Logde @ Sun City and try to get ourselves in although we were very doubtful we would be successful. In the end we thought it was worth a shot and it proved to be a very wise decision as not only did we get in however we had breakfast and lunch in the room next to the players. We met the president of Club Nacional of Futbol, Ricardo Alarcon and had chat that reminded me of my days in Uruguay.

As I tried to get over the surreal morning I was reminded that we has a massive match vs. Mexico that afternoon so we drove just ahead of the police escort of the team bus and upon arrival we saw an invasion of Mexicans in Rustenburg which I imagined would be daily viewing at the US-Mexican border. During the games, the tequila was clearly taking its affects on these cockroaches because they forgot that the national language in Uruguay is Spanish. The chupa vegras started chanting “putos” (poofters) every time our keeper would kick the ball which was slowly getting on my nerves!!

In the end we had the last laugh as we won the match 1-0 and the dream for me kept rolling on. The only bad thing at the end of the match was that “Yo Queiro Taco Bell” also qualified in 2nd place in Group A but they now face Argentina and our river plate brothers are surely going to give them a good hiding which I am going to thoroughly enjoy!!

thumbs_up The Good: Obviously the result and the fact that we moved into the 2nd phase by topping the group and doing so without conceding a single goal, FANTASTIC ACHIEVEMENT!

thumbs_down The Bad: The fact that US-Mexican border control dropped the ball and let so many CHUPA VERGAS come to South Africa!!!! After the match they were still talking shit and, as they say, talk is cheap! They say the fans for each team participating at the World Cup are here not only supporting their respective teams but are also representing their respective country. After the shit that I saw the Mexicans do I can clearly say that the next Mexican I ever meet is going to be screwed over by the fact that his fellow countrymen acted like a bunch of pissed CHUPA VERGAS, HIJOS DE PUTA!!!!!!!!!

clap Nightly Notable: For me it was Edison Cavani. He took time to find his rhythm and even though he didnt set the world on fire I felt that was he did produce in this match will lead to him stepping up a gear and injecting some of his youthful “Take on the World” attitude to the overall team, STAR OF THE FUTURE!

present Man Of The Match: Officially awarded to Luis Suarez and as he scored our crucial goal with a true strikers finish I cant really argue. Once again though I feel the need to mention Arrevalo Rios as he once again produced a gritty midfielders performance, he has really taken control and it is clearly apparent that he fully understands the role that he plays and on how to best execute his responsibilities for the good of the team.

The thing for me is that this has always been a dream for me to see Uruguay participate in a FIFA World Cup & the fact that we are performing so well at the moment made me a little emotional during our post match celebrations which caused me to shed a few tears. Just thinking about all my Dad has been through and the fact that even though we have had our differences over the years that I could repay him for everything he has done for me by letting him experience this with me got the better of me. Seeing the look on his face and how much this all means to him makes me feel that I was able to provide something to him that he has never had before and for that I love futbol so much more. The other factors for me are sharing the moments with true futbol fanatics like Gustavo and our newly adopted 4th Amigo Javier, these guys share the same passion for La Celeste and to be able to share in the glory of our victory with them makes it all the more special too. I keep on being amazed as how this trip continues to deliver on so many levels for me personally and my bucket list is shrinking by the day 🙂

OK, so now that I got all the emotional stuff out of the way our focus is now on our next opponent South Korea. We are now in Port Elizabeth which reminds me so much of back home and is the best city we have been to throughout all of our travels in Sud Africa. We have got a fantastic location right on the water which is also only 2 blocks away from La Celestes hotel and training ground. We plan to head to their hotel tomorrow morning to cheer them on right from the start.

The draw in the 2nd phase has been kind and represents a great opportunity for La Celeste to continue shining and progress further which is very possible. Not to take South Korea lightly however considering that to qualify we have to play Brazil and Argentina who between them have 7 World Cup titles and with whom we more than hold our own when we play I feel that we have the big match experience and the talent to win!!!
